What the learner need to demonstrate in order to meet the learning outcome

The learner can:

    • Explain how all substances are made of atoms and how a substance which is made of only one atom is called an element
    • Label a Periodic Table with the different groups and explain how the elements are put together in certain areas of the table
    • Explain how elements in the same group on the table have similar chemical properties
    • Explain how an element forms a compound
    • Recognise simple compounds from their names
    • Write a word equation for the reactions of metals and non-metals
