What the learner needs to know, understand or be able to do
The learner will:
Be able to select and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
Demonstrate correct use of a ride-on mower.
Assessment criteria
What the learner need to demonstrate in order to meet the learning outcome
The learner can:
- Follow simple instructions to select and wear appropriate PPE eg goggles/ safety glasses, ear defenders, hat, appropriate shoes
- Demonstrate the correct use of a ride-on mower through completion of the following steps:
- Locate mower by simple directions
- Get on mower appropriately, in a safe manner being careful not to stand on the blade protector
- Indicate to appropriate support that they are ready to start mowing and know where they are going
- Start mower and move off slowly in a controlled manner
- Engage mower blades
- Mow in a straight line
- Mow around an object
- Disengage blades
- Return the mower to the correct location
- Switch off the mower
- Get off mower in a controlled manner being careful not to stand on blade protector
